It’s easy to tell the difference between Sunsweet® Amaz!n Prunes and ordinary prunes. That’s because we’ve been perfecting prunes at Sunsweet® for over 100 years.
Our patented pitting process preserves the tastiest part of the prune near the pit, so you get a more delicious flavour, filled with nutrients.
When it comes to the best tasting prunes Sunsweet® knows The Taste is in the Shape.
At Sunsweet®, we’re passionate about prunes and have invested to improve the way we do things – from tunnel drying, to quality testing, to pit removal, as well as selecting only the very best growing conditions.
Our Location
Selecting farmland abundant in rich soil and bathed in a climate of rain-free summers and cool, not freezing, winters is key to producing our delicious prunes.
There are only a handful of places like this on earth and the birthplace of the Sunsweet® prune, the San Joaquin Valley, is one of the best. Our farmers know good farmland and only select these exclusive growing conditions for Sunsweet® prunes – meaning you get the best of what nature has provided.
Modern Methods
Sunsweet® Prunes are dehydrated immediately after picking to maximise the fruit’s freshness and concentrate their flavour. Prior to pitting and packing the prunes are then given a rejuvenating steam bath to make them soft and moist.
Our pitting process is unique – no other prunes in the world are pitted in the same way. The Smart Pitter lifts each prune, gently pushes out the pit and reseals the skin, preventing the fruit from drying out. This results in fruit that is rounder, plumper and more flavourful, as it retains more of the tender inner fruit flesh.
We’re big fans of the planet and want to do everything we can to look after it. From reducing waste to finding new ways to utilise the production of by-products, our goal is to increase sustainability across the board.
